Ottawa County Foam Trailer: Self-Contained Foam Unit
This custom unit was built on a 12 foot, 10,000gvw tandem-axle trailer. The foam trailer has the following features:
-
Convenient interchangeable tote-based foam cell. The tote construction allows for a quick change of the foam concentrate without the need for tank cleaning. Another important feature is the ability to transport the tote along with the removable monitor to a remote location and place into operation as a stand-alone system.
- Two 200-foot, 1-3/4 inch hand lines with 1-1/2 foam nozzles.
-
Able to provide standard fire attack or cooling water through the 1-3/4 inch hand lines utilizing an Akron Inline bypass eductor. Once it becomes necessary to introduce foam into the system, it is a simple procedure to throw the bypass valve on either hand line to switch from water operation to foam. Each cross lay is equipped with a shutoff valve and a Matty-Dale elbow to allow the hose to be deployed from either side of the unit.
- In addition to the tote, the unit is capable of transporting twelve five-gallon pails of foam.
-
A gas-powered Edwards TSD-25 foam pump installed to allow for quick and easy transfer of foam from the trailer to a remote location or to replenish the trailer's foam tote without removing the unit from service.
- Equipped with Task Force Cross Fire Monitor with master foam nozzle and removable base to allow for remote placement of the unit. The monitor can be operated from the top of the trailer deck and is easily accessed by utilizing the step assembly on either side of the trailer.
-
Water is supplied to the unit through two 2-1/2 inch capered inlets on the left and/or right side of the trailer to a 3-inch manifold where the water supply is then distributed to the monitor and hand lines. Our manifold is uniquely designed to route the water stream upwards to the monitor avoiding a loss of inertia when both inlets are used.
- The trailer is equipped with three stabilization jacks, one front and two rear, to assure safe placement and operation.
